Birth Anniversary: Amedeo Nazzari — December 10, 1907
Amedeo Nazzari, born Amedeo Buffa in Cagliari on 10 December 1907, had spent eight years on screen in mostly adventurous roles by 1940. That year Carmine Gallone cast him as the carbonaro Pietro Mirilli in Oltre l’amore, opposite Alida Valli in an adaptation of Stendhal’s Vanina Vanini — the film premiered at the 1940 Venice Mostra and the part began his move from adventure lead to the Italian cinema’s dramatic leading man of the following decade.
