Alessandro Blasetti was born in Rome on 3 July 1900. He taught directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, the state film school on via Tuscolana, and in 1942 directed Quattro passi fra le nuvole, the film of that year the Enciclopedia del Cinema names as a forerunner of neorealism.
