Anniversary: Entrance to Tutankhamun’s Tomb Discovered — November 4, 1922
04 November 2027
On 4 November 1922, workers under archaeologist Howard Carter cut into a step in the Valley of the Kings — the first sign of a stairway leading down to a sealed doorway. Three weeks of careful digging followed before anyone looked inside. The Valley, burial ground of Egypt’s New Kingdom pharaohs, had one more tomb left to give: the only one found nearly intact.
