Birth Anniversary: Le Corbusier — October 6, 1887
Le Corbusier — born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret — was born at La Chaux-de-Fonds, in Switzerland, on 6 October 1887. He is the most influential theorist of modern architecture: his «five points», the house as a «machine for living in», the Villa Savoye and the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille redrew the way the twentieth century built. From the ideal city to the chapel at Ronchamp and the plan of Chandigarh, he passed through every season of the modern. The anniversary marks the architect who left the deepest mark on the century.
