Death Anniversary: Le Corbusier — August 27, 1965

Ritratto d'autore · Cultural Heritage Online

Le Corbusier died on 27 August 1965, drowning in the sea at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, in front of the tiny Cabanon he had built himself on the Côte d’Azur. He left an immense and contested body of work, admired for the force of its ideas and criticised for its urban utopias. Seventeen of his buildings, in seven countries, are UNESCO World Heritage today. The anniversary marks the whole arc, from Purist abstraction to the late sculptural works in concrete.
