Some of the places in this archive have no photograph. Not because nobody ever took one — because the ones that exist are in somebody’s phone, in a family album, on a hard drive. If you have one, it belongs here more than it belongs there.
What we are looking for
A photograph of the building or the place itself: the facade, an interior, a detail, the ironwork, the tiles, the door. It does not need to be a professional shot. A clear phone picture taken in good light is worth far more to a reader than no picture at all.
Old photographs are welcome too, and sometimes they are the only ones left — a building that has been altered, or demolished, survives only in what people kept.
How to send it
Email the photograph to sofia@culturalheritageonline.com, and tell us three things:
- Which place it shows — the name, or the link to the page it belongs to.
- Who took it — the name you would like to see printed under it. If it was you, say so; if it was your father or your grandmother, tell us their name.
- That we may publish it — one line is enough: “This photograph is mine and you may publish it on the page, with credit.” If it is yours, it also goes on sale as a licence, in your name: you are the seller and the money is yours, CHO keeps 1% for handling the payment, you set the price from your personal area, and you can withdraw it whenever you like — it stays published, it simply stops being for sale.
What happens next
Sofia, our editorial assistant, reads every message and replies. If the photograph fits, it goes onto the page with your name under it, and you get the link. The page stays online and free to read, as every page in this archive does.
Two things to be clear about, and why
Photographs that belong to somebody else. We publish them only with the written permission of the person who took them — a forwarded email from the photographer is what we need, and the credit goes to them, not to you. Those photographs are never put on sale: the sale runs on the account of whoever sends them, and we will not sell somebody else’s work under the name of someone who did not make it. If you know where a usable photograph exists, tell us and we will ask its author ourselves — that is usually quicker.
Photographs of people as the subject. We document places. A photograph with passers-by in it is fine; a portrait is not what these pages are for.
