The Art Nouveau Poster: From Metlicovitz to Mucha (Museo Salce, Treviso)
Part of Art Nouveau Week 2026, this exhibition at Treviso's Museo Nazionale Collezione Salce — Italy's national museum of the advertising poster — reads the illustrated poster as the defining popular art of the Belle Époque. Drawing on the Salce collection, Il manifesto Art Nouveau: da Metlicovitz a Mucha gathers Central European and Italian work from the 1890s to the 1910s, centred on Leopoldo Metlicovitz (1868–1944), the Trieste-born designer who became artistic director at the Officine Ricordi in Milan, set beside the era's master of the form, Alphonse Mucha.
The show treats the poster not as mere advertising but as an aesthetic device that carried the sinuous line and decorative ambition of Art Nouveau into the street. The exhibition is curated by Elisabetta Pasqualin, Andrea Speziali and Carla Tocchetti, with its main venue in the deconsecrated church of Santa Margherita.
Dates: 3–26 July 2026 · Venue: Museo Nazionale Collezione Salce, Treviso (Chiesa di Santa Margherita).
