Death Anniversary: Michel Blavet — October 28, 1768
He died in Paris on 28 October 1768. The undisputed supreme French flute virtuoso of his century, he held principal chairs at the Concert Spirituel, the Paris Opéra, and the court of the Prince of Carignan, composing groundbreaking flute concertos, sonatas, and the opera Le jalous corrigé that defined the golden age of the French woodwind school.
A note on this date. The exact day of birth is unrecorded in seventeenth-century baptismal registers of Besançon (March 1700); we celebrate his verified death anniversary on 28 October. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
