Death Anniversary: Johann Melchior Molter — January 12, 1765
He died in Karlsruhe on 12 January 1765 after decades as Hofkapellmeister to the Margrave of Baden. An extraordinarily versatile instrumental pioneer, his six concertos for high D clarinet written in the 1740s are the earliest known concertos composed for the instrument, alongside dozens of trumpet concertos and sinfonias.
