Death Anniversary: Paolo Benedetto Bellinzani — February 25, 1757
He died at Recanati in the Marche on 25 February 1757, where he had directed cathedral music for more than twenty years after earlier posts in Udine, Pesaro and Urbino. Trained in Venice, his published collection of recorder sonatas, op. 3, of 1720 concludes with a celebrated set of variations on La Follia that ranks among the finest Italian wind works of the era.
A note on this date. The exact day of birth is unrecorded in Mantuan parish registers (c. 1690); we celebrate his verified death anniversary on 25 February. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
