Death Anniversary: François d’Agincourt — April 30, 1758

30 April 2027
Paris

He died in Paris on 30 April 1758 after forty-four years as organist of the Chapelle Royale in Versailles alongside François Couperin and Louis-Claude Daquin. Long serving Rouen Cathedral, his published Pièces de clavecin of 1733 represent one of the crowning monuments of the French harpsichord school, blending Couperinian lyricism with Italian fluidity.

A note on this date. The exact day of birth is not preserved in Rouen baptismal archives (c. 1684); we celebrate his verified death anniversary on 30 April. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
