Death Anniversary: Tomaso Albinoni — January 17, 1751
He died in Venice on 17 January 1751 in the parish of San Barnaba. Though early encyclopedias gave his death as 1750 following the Venetian civil calendar (more veneto), archival recovery of his parish death entry confirmed the date in 1751. His fifty surviving operas and nine collections of instrumental concertos established his standing alongside Vivaldi in the Venetian musical world.
A note on this date. Early sources cited 1750 as year of death due to the Venetian more veneto calendar; parish registers of San Barnaba verified by Michael Talbot confirm 17 January 1751. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
