Birth Anniversary: Tomaso Albinoni — June 8, 1671
Born in Venice on 8 June 1671, the eldest son of Antonio Albinoni, a wealthy paper merchant and patrician citizen. Describing himself as a dilettante veneto, he cultivated composition independently of church or court appointments, producing pioneering oboe concertos and instrumental sonatas that circulated widely across Europe and were studied and transcribed by Johann Sebastian Bach.
A note on this date. Early sources cited 1750 as year of death due to the Venetian more veneto calendar; parish registers of San Barnaba verified by Michael Talbot confirm 17 January 1751. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
