Birth Anniversary: Ermete Zacconi — September 14, 1857
Ermete Zacconi was born in Montecchio Emilia on 14 September 1857, the son of touring actors, and was on stage as a child. By 1941, at eighty-three, he was one of Italian theatre’s oldest working names when he played the title role in Don Buonaparte, a Tuscan parish priest offered a cardinal’s hat and choosing his parishioners instead — the performance that won him the Coppa Volpi for best actor at that year’s Venice Mostra.
