Photo: Unknown author — Public domain (Wikimedia Commons) Ercole Pietro Manfredi was born in Turin on 2 July 1883. He attended the Accademia Albertina and then travelled to Bangkok, one of many Westerners taken into the service of the Siamese government. He never came back. Manfredi died in Bangkok in 1973, ninety years old, having spent the greater part of his life in the city his generation of Italians had helped to build.
