Feast of Saint David — March 1

The feast of Saint David, patron saint of Wales, falls on 1 March. He founded a monastery in the sixth century at Glyn Rhosyn, on a wind-scoured stretch of Pembrokeshire coast, and the cathedral raised there eventually gave its name to the smallest city in Britain around it. The floor of the nave still slopes down toward his shrine, a deliberate fourteen-foot drop that makes every visitor walk, almost without noticing, downhill toward the saint.
