Feast of Saint Boniface — June 5

The feast of Saint Boniface, the English monk who became known as the Apostle of Germany, falls on 5 June — the day Frisian raiders killed him near Dokkum in 754. His body was carried to Fulda, to the abbey he had founded, and the cathedral built over his tomb between 1704 and 1712 has kept him at the centre of German Catholic life ever since. Few missionaries got a national shrine out of their own murder.
