Feast of Saint Teresa of Ávila — October 15

The feast of Saint Teresa of Ávila, mystic, writer and reformer of the Carmelite order, falls on 15 October. She was born inside the walled city in 1515 and spent much of her life founding convents that stripped the order back to poverty and silence. Ávila’s cathedral, itself built into the medieval walls as a fortress-church, still holds the liturgy of her feast each year in the town that shaped her and that she, in turn, made famous.
