Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is a municipal art museum in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. History
The museum traces its origins to 1847, when Frans Jacob Otto Boijmans bequeathed his personal art collection to the city of Rotterdam. Following a fire that destroyed much of the original collection in 1864, the museum was rebuilt and expanded over subsequent decades. The current building, designed by architect Ad van der Steur, opened in 1935, and a major extension was added in 1972. A significant renovation and expansion project has been underway in the 21st century, with the iconic Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen — a mirrored bowl-shaped building — opening as a publicly accessible art storage facility in 2021.
