History
The Church of St Peter has Saxon origins, with construction spanning the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. The initial church was built in 1226. In 1880–82, a new church dedicated to the same saint was erected nearby as the medieval building fell into disrepair. The original was declared redundant on 6 April 1971 and transferred to the Churches Conservation Trust on 28 June 1972. The newer church remains consecrated, with occasional summer services continuing today.

The medieval structure retains distinctive carved wagon roofs in the aisle and porch—a feature increasingly rare in English parish churches. These timber-vaulted ceilings showcase the craftsmanship of their era.
