History
Robert T. Lyons designed the structure, completed in 1931 after construction began in 1929. Between 1959 and 1963, a significant renovation expanded the western section fronting Horatio Street, adding four apartments per floor alongside modern amenities: air conditioning and replacement windows. This addition occupied the former site of the Caledonian Club (1880–1897), which later housed church-related organizations. Together with the 17-story building at 54 Eighth Avenue, the complex replaced six earlier low-rise structures.
