History
Miami Beach was still assembling its identity as a resort city when the Ocean Spray Hotel rose in the mid-1930s. Hampton and his building partner Belsham raised the structure quickly, part of a wave of small and mid-sized hotels meeting demand from winter visitors. It predates the more famous concentration of Art Deco hotels further south. Federal recognition came decades later, in 2004, when the building’s architectural merit earned it a place on the National Register.
