Museum of Serbs of Croatia

History
Established in 1946, the museum operated as a public institution for seventeen years. In 1963, it was formally incorporated into the Croatian History Museum, ending its independent status. The museum’s collection was dispersed across multiple institutions during the late twentieth century. In 1992, during the War in Croatia, significant portions of the collection held at the Museum of Metropolitanate of Zagreb and Ljubljana were destroyed in mining operations on 11 April. In 2009, on the 65th anniversary of the organization Prosvjeta, a restoration initiative was launched to recover and reassemble the museum’s legacy.
