Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina
A regional institution dedicated to contemporary art from 1950 onwards, with particular attention to Vojvodina’s artistic legacy and its place within international movements.
At a glance
Housed in a modernist wing of a 1959 building designed by architect Ivo Vitić, this museum preserves and exhibits contemporary art from the second half of the 20th century to the present. Located across from Dunavski Park, it serves as a cultural bridge between the local art scene and wider European contexts.
History
The institution began as the Gallery of Contemporary Art on 1 February 1966. In 1996 it became the Museum of Contemporary Art in Novi Sad, expanding its remit and institutional standing. The museum adopted its current name, Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, on 24 March 2004, reflecting a sharpened regional focus.
The building itself has a distinct history. Designed in 1959 by Ivo Vitić, it originally housed the Museum of Socialist Revolution, later renamed the Museum of Vojvodina. Today one wing accommodates the contemporary art museum.
What you see
The modernist structure designed by Vitić typifies mid-20th-century museum architecture. The building’s placement opposite Dunavski Park creates a cultural anchor within Novi Sad’s urban landscape, its form reflecting the functionalist principles of its era.
