History
Pavle Beljanski, a Serbian diplomat and art patron, assembled his collection over many years. In November 1957, he donated the entire holdings to the Serbian people—an act of cultural generosity that secured the works for public access. Beljanski continued to acquire and contribute additional pieces until his death, deepening the collection’s scope and significance. The museum opened its doors to the public on 22 October 1961.
