The museum was officially established in 1946, shortly after Yugoslavia’s liberation from Axis occupation. By November of that year, the institution expanded into a comprehensive museum with broader collections. The first public exhibition opened on May 31, 1948. The museum received its current name, Museum of Srem, in 1952.
