History
The Vienna-based architects Fellner & Helmer, renowned for their theatre designs across Central Europe, initially received a commission to design the Schiller Theatre in Czernowitz (now Chernivtsi, Ukraine). When financing delays postponed construction there, the architects repurposed their plans for Fürth’s new theatre, which was completed in 1902. The Czernowitz theatre was eventually constructed from the same designs and finished in 1905, making the two buildings nearly identical.
