History
Originally called Saratovsky Railway Station, the terminus was renamed Paveletsky in 1899 when the southeastern rail line reached the settlement of Pavelets. Architect Alexander Krasovsky designed the station’s ornate original building, completed in 1900. The station gained historical significance in 1924, when it served as the assembly point where Muscovites came to receive the body of Vladimir Lenin. The Lenin Funeral Train—the locomotive and cars that carried his remains—remains permanently displayed at the Museum of the Moscow Railway, offering visitors insight into this solemn moment in Soviet history.
