History
Franciscan missionaries founded Valle de San Bartolomé in 1569, establishing one of Chihuahua’s earliest European settlements. In 1825, the city received its current name in honor of Ignacio Allende, a prominent military commander who fought in the Mexican War of Independence. The settlement sits along the historic “El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro,” the royal trade route that connected Mexico City to the northern frontier.
