Kulan
A small administrative town in southern Kazakhstan, Kulan serves as the centre of Turar Ryskulov District and sits on a major transport corridor connecting Central Asian cities.

Kulan is the administrative hub of Turar Ryskulov District in Jambyl Region. Known until 1992 by its Russian name, Lugovoe, the town lies strategically on the railway route connecting Taraz, Bishkek and Shu—a vital transport link across the region.
History
The town was renamed from Lugovoe to Kulan in 1992, following Kazakhstan’s independence. On 23 May 2003, Kulan experienced a significant earthquake measuring 6.5–7.0 on the Richter scale, with the town at the epicentre. The town also gained international attention as the childhood home of Ukrainian boxing champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, who attended school there during their youth.
