The area encompasses 11,149 hectares of classified vineyards, approximately 5,500 of which are currently planted. History
Tokaj’s viticultural tradition extends back centuries, establishing the region as a center of wine excellence in Central Europe. The 1920 Treaty of Trianon partitioned the historical region, with a smaller portion now located in Slovakia. Despite this division, Tokaj remains unified in its reputation and winemaking heritage.

The region’s testimony to a long and unique viticultural legacy earned it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002 under the designation “Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape”—acknowledgment of both its winemaking innovation and cultural importance.
