Castello di Arceto
Castello di Arceto is a medieval fortified complex rising above the village of Arceto in the municipality of Scandiano, in the province of Reggio Emilia, Emilia-Romagna. Built on a hilltop commanding the foothills of the Apennines, the castle served successive noble families as a defensive stronghold and residence, and is today among the well-preserved examples of medieval military architecture in the lower Po Valley.

The origins of Castello di Arceto are traced to the early medieval period, when the site was fortified to defend the territory against incursions from competing lordships across the Emilian foothills. Over the following centuries the structure passed through the hands of several noble families, including the powerful Boiardo dynasty whose most famous member, the poet Matteo Maria Boiardo, lived and worked in the nearby Scandiano area during the fifteenth century. The castle was expanded and strengthened during the communal and Signoria periods of Reggio Emilia before falling into partial decline after the sixteenth century.

Arceto is located approximately 5 km south of Scandiano in the Province of Reggio Emilia. Scandiano is served by regional rail connections from Reggio Emilia (roughly 15 km north), and by bus services from Reggio Emilia city centre. From Scandiano, Arceto is reachable by local road; a car is recommended for visiting the hilltop village. The A1 Milan–Naples motorway passes nearby with exits at Reggio Emilia.
