Brissogne is a town and comune in the Aosta Valley region of north-western Italy, known in the local Valdôtain dialect as Brèissogne. It lies in the central valley not far from Aosta, the regional capital. The comune is part of the bilingual French- and Italian-speaking Alpine community of the region.

History

Brissogne developed in the central Aosta Valley, the historic corridor connecting the Italian plain with the western Alpine passes. The valley’s communities grew along the ancient route to Aosta, a town founded by the Romans as Augusta Praetoria. Through the medieval and early modern periods the area lay within the lands of the House of Savoy, which left a lasting mark on the region.
