The studio began its exhibition program in 1984, initially concentrating on contemporary painting. A pivotal shift occurred in 1991 when it became the first Italian venue to exhibit the Congolese artist Chéri Samba, opening the gallery’s engagement with African contemporary art. This commitment deepened through ongoing relationships with South African artists; Raffaelli served as curator for the International Art Biennial in Rocca di Castagnoli (Siena) in 2007.

Its early recognition of African contemporary art marked a pioneering moment in Italian gallery practice.
