A contemporary art centre and cultural hub occupying a restored palazzo on Venice’s Zattere waterfront, launched by the V-A-C Foundation in 2017.

History
The V-A-C Foundation established Zattere as its Venetian headquarters in spring 2017. Architect Alessandro Pedron undertook the restoration and renovation of the historic palazzo, transforming it into a centre for contemporary culture. In spring 2018, the foundation launched two long-term initiatives: sudest 1401, a sociocultural project developed with Hamed Ahmadi, a political refugee from Afghanistan living in Venice, and Laguna Viva (Living Lagoon), an outdoor installation created in collaboration with London-based collective Assemble and local organisation We Are Here Venice.

Laguna Viva comprises two large tanks housing a botanical installation designed to resemble a typical lagoon saltmarsh habitat, arranged according to botanical associations and functional morphology.

The sudest 1401 project explores cultural dialogue and refugee narratives through shared food traditions, combining cuisine that traces migration routes to Italy.
