The Mission — Film Location

Roland Joffé’s The Mission (1986) opens with a Jesuit priest lashed to a cross and swept over a thundering waterfall, filmed at the Iguazú Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil. The film follows the eighteenth-century Jesuit reductions built above the cataracts, and the falls themselves — among the largest in the world — become a character in the tragedy.
