Under the Tuscan Sun (2003) sends a heartbroken American writer to buy a crumbling villa in Cortona, the Etruscan hill town in eastern Tuscany. The film was shot in and around the town’s steep stone streets and piazzas, and turned Cortona into a destination for travellers chasing the same Tuscan reinvention.
