The Last Emperor — Film Location

Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor (1987) was the first Western feature film allowed to shoot inside Beijing’s Forbidden City, the vast imperial palace from which Puyi ruled and where, as a child emperor, he was effectively imprisoned. Nine Academy Awards later, the film remains inseparable from the ochre walls and golden roofs of the Ming and Qing court.
