Gladiator — Film Location

Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000) turned the fortified earthen village of Aït Benhaddou into Zucchabar, the dusty Roman frontier town where the enslaved Maximus is first forced to fight. The ksar’s tiered mudbrick kasbahs, rising from the edge of the Sahara along an old caravan route, have served as a ready-made antiquity for many epics — but Gladiator made them unmistakable.
