The colossal staircase and gilded halls of the Royal Palace of Caserta became the Royal Palace of Theed on Naboo in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), returning for Attack of the Clones (2002). Vanvitelli’s eighteenth-century Bourbon palace, the largest royal residence in the world by volume, gave George Lucas a planetary throne room without a single built set.
