The Levant Fair

One of Italy’s largest trade fairs, hosting hundreds of international exhibitors and hundreds of thousands of visitors annually in the heart of Bari’s waterfront.

At a glance

The Levant Fair is a major Mediterranean exhibition center spanning 300,000 square meters in the Marconi-San Girolamo-Fesca district. The fair draws over five thousand exhibitors and two million visitors yearly, generating approximately 150 million euros in related trade. Its flagship event, the “Campionaria di Settembre,” takes place annually in September.

History

Founded in 1929 through collaboration between the Municipality of Bari, the Provincial Administration, and the Bari Chamber of Commerce, the fair has operated continuously since its inception. The first international sample opened in 1930, establishing what would become a cornerstone of Mediterranean commerce.

Operations paused only between 1940 and 1946 due to war devastation. The September editions resumed thereafter and have continued without interruption. Specialized trade reviews began in 1969, expanding the fair’s scope beyond the main annual event.

What you see

The exhibition center has grown substantially over decades. Originally occupying one hundred thousand square meters, the complex now encompasses three hundred thousand square meters of exhibition and event spaces. A dedicated conference structure opened in 2011, further expanding capacity for congresses and international meetings.

Cultural significance

The Levant Fair serves as a vital commercial bridge connecting central and southern Europe with southeastern Europe and the broader Mediterranean basin. Through its annual calendar of roughly forty events, it facilitates crucial business contacts between exhibitors and international markets, reinforcing Bari’s position as a Mediterranean trade hub.
