History

The castle endured repeated assaults across centuries—fifteenth-century Aragonese and Spanish attacks, seventeenth-century disputes, and Second World War bombardments damaged its fabric.
Baron Bettino Ricasoli established the modern Chianti formula in 1872, cementing the family’s role in defining the region’s most celebrated wine. That pioneering work continues under the “Barone Ricasoli” label today.
