A preserved domestic interior housing the antiquarian collections of Brescian scholar Pietro Malossi, set within the artisan quarter of Borgo del Maglio.
At a glance
The Pietro Malossi House Museum occupies a residence in Ome’s historic Borgo del Maglio, a district defined by its metalworking heritage. The house belonged to Andrea Maér Averoldi, the last master blacksmith of the mallet, who worked until his death in 1984. Today it preserves collections assembled by the Brescian antiquarian and art collector Pietro Malossi.
History
The dwelling was the home of Andrea Maér Averoldi, a practitioner of traditional hammer-forging techniques who represented the final generation of artisans working at the mallet in Ome. When Averoldi died in 1984, the house passed into new custodianship. Brescian antiquarian Pietro Malossi, who had developed a close connection to Ome through frequent visits, bequeathed his personal collections to a foundation established in his name. The house subsequently became a museum, transforming a private residence into a repository of both domestic life and collected objects.
What you see
The house preserves the character of a working artisan’s dwelling within the Borgo del Maglio, historically a centre of metalwork production. The interior contains the antiquarian collections of Pietro Malossi, offering insight into both the domestic environment and the scholarly interests of its benefactor. The setting situates these collections within their regional context, neighbouring the Il Maglio Averoldi Museum.
Cultural significance
The museum documents two interconnected narratives: the everyday life of a master craftsman practising traditional metalworking, and the collecting practices of a Brescian antiquarian. It forms part of the Sistema Museale di Valle Trompia, a coordinated museum network across the valley, and belongs to the La Via dell’Arte itinerary, which connects cultural sites throughout the region.
