Museo dei Campionissimi

A cycling museum housed in a converted early-20th-century industrial warehouse, celebrating the lives and achievements of legendary cyclists Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo, who spent most of their lives in Novi Ligure.

At a glance

The Museo dei Campionissimi honours two of cycling’s greatest champions through exhibits in a 3,000-square-metre former warehouse. The museum brings together the legacies of athletes deeply rooted in their hometown.

History

The museum was inaugurated on 30 April 2003 in a disused warehouse formerly owned by ILVA (previously ITALSIDER). The conversion transformed an industrial space into a cultural venue dedicated to preserving the memory of cycling champions Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo, both of whom spent most of their lives in Novi Ligure.

What you see

The museum occupies a substantial early-1900s industrial building, its vast interior spaces adapted to display cycling history and memorabilia. The warehouse structure retains its industrial character while serving as a contemporary exhibition space for the sport’s heritage.

Cultural significance

The museum celebrates Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo, both monumental figures in cycling history with deep connections to Novi Ligure. It serves as a local monument to sporting excellence and the town’s prominent place in the sport’s narrative.
