Studio of Lapo Gargani

The working studio of contemporary Florentine painter Lapo Gargani, housing his artistic production since 2016—a collection of portraiture, landscapes, and symbolic compositions exploring memory and interior worlds.

At a glance

An active artist’s studio in central Florence displaying works from the series Femme and Prospettive Possibili. The space contains portraits of mysterious female figures, representations of deserted beaches and abandoned piers, polar landscapes with symbolic foliage, and scenario-based compositions that gesture toward alternative realities.

History

Lapo Gargani was born in Florence in 1972. He began working in painting decoration and restoration as a young professional, launching his formal artistic career in 1995. By 2006, he received the XXIV Florence Prize, followed by the Italy Prize in 2013. Recognition as an “Artist to follow” appeared in Exibart magazine in 2009. His practice deepened through collaborations with musicians and writers: in 2013 he designed sets for Danish jazz pianist Jesper Bodilsen’s concert at Palazzo Pitti and created the album cover for Acouspace Plus. A significant year-long project dedicated to musician Vinicio Capossela appeared in Laura Rizzo’s volume Canzoni a Manovella (2015). Meeting curator Gisella Guarducci in 2016 marked an important turning point in his career trajectory.

What you see

Gargani’s work reveals a disciplined hand grounded in meticulous drawing and photographic study. Transparencies, graffiti, material scratches, collage compositions, and precise color applications characterize his visual language. Each work maintains impeccable compositional balance while evoking projections beyond reality—simultaneous immersions into past and memory. The studio holds pictorial works spanning 2016 to the present, representing a continuous investigation into image, text, and refined visual sensitivity.

Cultural significance

The studio documents contemporary Florentine artistic practice and interdisciplinary collaboration. Gargani’s work bridges painting tradition with contemporary concerns of memory, landscape transformation, and symbolic representation. His production appears in public and private collections throughout Italy and internationally, positioning Florence’s artistic lineage within contemporary European visual culture.
