Dep Art Gallery
A contemporary art gallery dedicated to Italian artists, serving as the official archive center for the work of Turi Simeti since 2013.
At a glance
Dep Art represents a vital platform for contemporary Italian artistic practice. The gallery focuses on established and emerging artists while maintaining specialized curatorial attention to pioneering figures in kinetic and optical art.
History
Since its establishment, Dep Art has built its reputation around careful documentation and exhibition of Italian contemporary work. In 2013, the gallery became the official archive center for artist Turi Simeti, undertaking comprehensive preservation of his practice. In 2017, working with art historian Federico Sardella—who initiated the archival project—Dep Art prepared the publication of the Simeti Catalogue Raisonné through Skira publishers.
What you see
The gallery space presents rotating exhibitions of contemporary painting and mixed media. Works by Alberto Biasi and Pino Pinelli are featured alongside those of Turi Simeti, reflecting the gallery’s focus on artists working with color, form, and optical phenomena.
Cultural significance
Dep Art functions as both exhibition venue and research institution. Its role as official custodian of Simeti’s archive—including his extensive body of work on canvas—establishes it as an important scholarly resource for understanding contemporary Italian art practice and the development of kinetic aesthetics in postwar Italy.
