Solheimasandur Plane Wreck

On November 24, 1973 a Douglas Super DC-3 of the US Navy was forced to make an emergency landing on the remote Sólheimasandur beach in southwestern Iceland. All the crew survived the impact and managed to get to safety, but the plane was abandoned on the spot.

On the plane crash, however, there are many aspects never clarified: not only was the cause of the emergency landing not exactly declared, but also on the exact date of the incident there are discordant opinions (the US Navy declared that 24 November, but local sources report November 23 or 21).

info: The plane was abandoned on the spot (a sign that in the impact was seriously damaged) and today there is only a droopy carcass.
