The Villa Lante in Bagnaia (Viterbo) is one of the greatest achievements of the Italian sixteenth century. Of particular note are Giambologna's Fontana dei Mori, the two buildings (Gambara and Montalto) and a spectacular system of fountains and water features as well as a beautiful wooded park.
The whole Villa (between the Italian garden and the park) occupies an area of ??22 hectares.
Villa Lante in Bagnaia, a hamlet of Viterbo is, together with Bomarzo, one of the most famous Italian Mannerist surprise gardens of the sixteenth century. The Villa, owned by the Italian State, has been managed by the Lazio Museum Complex since December 2014.
Despite the lack of contemporary documentation, its conception is attributed to Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola.

Construction began in 1511, but was completed around 1566 on commission from Cardinal Gianfrancesco Gambara.
