Excavations in the Archaeological Park of Pompeii constitute an extraordinary testimony of the ancient world thanks to the state of preservation of the city, remained practically intact after the eruption that struck it in 79 d. C. erasing it from the Vesuvian landscape.
The city, thanks also to its position, was interested, between the VII and the VI sec. a.C, from a flourishing indigenous settlement. Located between the sea and the Sarno river, Pompeii exploited, in fact, two important avenues of communications useful for trade.
In the fifth century the city passed under the control of the Samnites, exposed however to the Greek and Etruscan influence.
In the III century BC, in the aftermath of the Punic wars, is drawn into the orbit of Rome to which it binds definitively in 80 BC, with the foundation by Silla of the colony.
Beginning in the mid-1700s, the excavations, commissioned by the Bourbons and carried out for over a century, brought the city back to light, giving us a complete picture of everyday life in Roman times.
The route winds through the streets, like Via dell'Abbondanza, the most important, on which the most famous houses and shops of the city overlooked, including public monuments such as the amphitheater and the theater and through the buildings that still stand today. , with their size, on the hole.
Visiting private homes, which retain a luxurious appearance with elegant frescoes and marble decorations, offers an interesting overview of Roman customs and the taste of the owners.
Still today they are discovered in the excavations, which proceed every day, new frescos, houses, domus and shops with objects and furnishings of all kinds.
