In the Monterano Nature Reserve, among springs, sulphurous spouts, wild pastures and waterfalls, the “ghost” town of Monterano is hidden. Located on a tuffaceous hill, where, after the destruction and escape of the inhabitants, nature has slowly re-appropriated the place, thus giving a fascinating and extremely suggestive aspect.
The visit of the ancient abandoned city of Monterano, in the heart of the protected area, will be a truly unique experience because it will allow us to really walk among ancient houses, towers, churches and baronial palace, which, despite being reduced to ruins, show the details of their interiors and with them their ancient everyday life, allowing you to breathe and relive the atmosphere of that time.
Among the remains we will admire the intervention of the famous architect Bernini, who probably also designed the Church of San Bonaventura, which stands like a cathedral in the desert, but on a plateau surrounded by dense woods.
